ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday felicitated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on winning the US presidential elections, adding that Islamabad was looking forward to working with Washington “for peace in Afghanistan” and the region.
“Look forward to President Elect Biden’s Global Summit on Democracy & working with him to end illegal tax havens and stealth of nation’s wealth by corrupt ldrs. We will also continue to work with US for peace in Afghanistan & in the region,” PM Khan tweeted on Sunday.
President Arif Alvi also congratulated President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on their electoral win and said that Pakistan was hoping for a “dignified relationship” with the US
“Looking forward to an improving US role toward world peace specially in Afghanistan, as well as the entire region. Pakistan looks forward to our continued long term friendship and a dignified relationship,” he tweeted on Sunday.
Democrat Biden was elected as the 46th US president on Saturday, defeating Donald Trump with a majority of the electoral votes.
Harris, his running mate, has made history as the first woman, the first Black person and the first person of South Asian descent to become US Vice President.
The relationship between Islamabad and Washington has witnessed a positive trajectory in recent years, with both the countries actively contributing toward peace-building efforts in Afghanistan.
